Grief is an emotion filled with sadness that holds great significance in our lives. Everybody, at some point, has felt this complex emotion.
If we look at the literal meaning of “grief”, it means great sadness, especially from losing someone we love.
Losing someone not only leaves an irreparable space in our lives but also creates a turmoil of emotions, making us feel low, tearful, and hopeless. Nothing seems fine at that moment; it feels like our world has fallen apart.
Steps that leads to Grief
From that moment, one tends to isolate themselves and find solace in being alone. It is such an overwhelming emotion that no one can ever truly express it in words.
Coping with the loss of someone we love is not easy, whatever the reason, whether it is abandonment, betrayal, or death. It creates a void in our lives. Sometimes, losing faith in someone can also plunge us into grief.
The Blame Game
People often blame themselves for the loss, which only amplifies the emotion. This can result in self-denial, guilt, anger, and eventually depression.
But if we analyze it, blaming ourselves for what happened is not right because I believe there is Almighty who has already planned our lives. The matter of life and death is beyond our control.
Sometimes even a slight scratch on our body can lead to an unfortunate health hazard, while other times, it’s just a scratch that eventually heals like nothing happened.
Coping Mechanisms & Activities that Help to Heal
Cry as much as you want, vent whatever you feel, your feelings matter.
But don’t dwell in that emotion for too long. Look around; there are still people who love you and want you to be healthy and have a good state of mind. Live stably for them. I understand it’s easier said than done.
It’s not easy to simply accept the fact that the person you once loved is no longer around. But you know, if you were cheated on or abandoned, it’s good that you discovered that person’s true colors. That person never valued you and doesn’t deserve you. So, why waste your beautiful self on someone who doesn’t even care for you?
If someone has left this world, remember that your person is always with you in your heart. Think of it as if they are watching you from the sky. If they see you in an unhappy state, they will feel sad too. So, for the sake of the people you love and who love you, Try to get your life together. Get up, get dressed, and go outside to make a difference to this world by bringing a smile on somebody’s face.
Go to your favorite restaurant and have a meal. Divert your mind by occupying it with other things like washing dishes, cleaning your space, or doing laundry.
Balancing Grief and Moving On
Sometimes, moving on with our lives feels like we are forgetting the person we lost, especially in the case of their passing. Losing someone is beyond our control, but we can control our emotions. Try to accept that whatever has happened in the past was bound to happen, and move along with life.
Talk to others, do something that feels good, perhaps help people in need. Involve yourself in community services. Try to find happiness again. Move towards the light and positivity. We are our own saviors, the anchors of our lives.
We all are given one life; let’s try to make the best use of it. And hopefully, one day, we will all meet again with those who passed away from this world.
